CAA Artist Members at The Foundry Equation!
Cambridge’s historic Foundry building hosted “The Foundry Equation”, an art initiative and open house. The event featured many talented local artists, live music and improv performances. Our very own CAA members Christina Zwart, Warren Croce and Joe Kitsch participated in the event! Check our their thoughts on being part of the exhibit below!
“I was THRILLED to be invited to participate in the Foundry Equation’s event! There are few words sweeter to an installation artist’s ears than “Here’s a room. Do whatever you want!” It’s not every day that I can waltz into a building and blow flour all over the place!
As fellow artists were unloading their cars and bringing their works up the elevator, I could feel the low pulse of the vacant building getting stronger. The energy kept rising — from set-up on Friday through full-swing Saturday — when the whole community got a taste of what is possible for the space. Oh, say it will be so!” -Christina
“I was asked to show at The Foundry Equation about a week before the event and jumped at the opportunity. I didn’t know what to expect but I wanted to get behind the cause of allocating this awesome space for use as a community arts resource.
My son Aaron and I went on Friday to set up. The event used only the fourth floor, which in and of itself was huge and certainly large enough for the show. I was surprised that the layout was basically individual “offices” where each artist displayed their work. I wasn’t sure if that would separate the experience too much for visitors, but as an exhibitor having a dedicated space was really nice. It was essentially a series of “mini galleries”. I was impressed with the turnout. There was a steady stream of visitors from beginning to end and I met many people with whom I will maintain contact in the future. I even got a call the following day and sold a couple of pieces. All in all it was a very positive experience. I loved the “pop-up” feel to it; not a lot of prep time and overhead, just set up, exhibit, and tear down. In the end I hope that this event (and hopefully more like them) will convince the City of Cambridge to use this space for artistic purposes.” – Warren
“The Level of the energy and talent from these artists was amazing and I’m impressed how quickly and organized the event was put together” – Joe
