CALLS FOR ART

Kingston Gallery , Boston

Emerging Artist Program

The Emerging artist program was conceived to act as a stepping stone for an artist early in their career, into the professional art world of exhibiting and operating an artist run gallery. The artist should not currently be enrolled in a studio program as a student.

The gallery will help an emerging artist show a body of new work in a professional setting. The emerging artist will be connected with experienced mentors who will educate them on the practical aspects of every day art gallery business. In addition, they will have the opportunity to voice their own vision and ideas about future goals for the gallery.

The emerging artist:
  • is required to attend monthly meetings
  • will work with our marketing director and the marketing working group
  • is expected to participate in other activities concerning the maintenance of the gallery
  • will also be required to gallery sit once a month
  • is expected to establish some personal contacts with members, for example during studio visits
  • should reside in the greater Boston area

The initiation fee and monthly dues are waived. By the end of the emerging artist’s tenure the commitment to the gallery culminates in a one-person show in our Center Gallery.

Guest Juror: Greer Muldowney

Exhibition: August 16 – September 12, 2018

Deadline: Sunday, June 17 @ 11:59PM

City life may not be the first image that comes to mind when you imagine the New England landscape, but the region is sprinkled with historically rich and diverse cities both large and small. Whether you are in the bustling metro areas of Boston, nestled in the sleepy mountains of Vermont, or sit on the rocky coasts of Maine, you are always accompanied by a familiar charm. However, our states are still home to cities that have fallen into disrepair where vibrant mill industries once flourished, suffer from underfunded social programs, and a growing disparity among the folks that call the same place “home” is becoming more visible.

Greer Muldowney is an artist, photography professor and independent curator based in Boston, Massachusetts. She received an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Studio Art from Clark University, and an MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has acted as the Curator for the Desotorow Gallery in Savannah, GA and was the Regional Coordinator for the Flash Forward Festival on behalf of the Magenta Foundation. Muldowney also has served as a member of the Board for the Griffin Museum of Photography, and currently teaches at Boston College, Boston University and Lesley Art + Design.
