Enter the Game, Mixed media

What are your earliest memories of being artistic?  Drawing dinosaurs and superheros in 3rd grade P.S 41 New York City.

When did art become a pursuit?  My grand parents were students and met at the Art Students League in N.Y.C. and since then my family and I have followed being in the arts.

Are you self-taught or formally educated in visual art?  Studied and graduated at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts.

How did you first become involved with CAA?  Going back to 2008. For years I thought about joining. I did a lot of shows before becoming a member. I thought it would be a good idea to belong to an artist group.

In what other ways are you involved in the local art community? I did have a studio in Somerville as well in the Fort Point in Boston. Right now I’m trying to find a group in Quincy and Milton.

What role do you think the artist plays in society?  Artist are the forerunners to ideas and new places. Unfortunately most of the time we don’t get the credit.

What medium do you currently work in and how did you choose this medium?  Wood right now. It’s a easier medium them metal and can form shapes or boxes with secret compartments.

What is your creative process? Where are you finding ideas for your art these days?  I’m taking lots of pictures of sewer grids and rusty signs in old abandon spaces.

How do you choose your subject matter? Is there a reoccurring theme that carries throughout your work? Game boards, grids, things with letters and numbers. I seem to be drawn to patterns with circles.

In your opinion, what’s your best/favorite piece you’ve made? It seems to be the last one until the next comes along.

What is one of your artistic goals? Becoming a working artist and doing more writing.

What’s your favorite place to see art? I still have to say New York City and Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade banner street art.

What living artists are you inspired by? Jasper Johns.

Do you own any art by other artists? Not as much as I would like. I lack wall and storage space.
