Arctic Touch, Oil on canvas

For some reason my earliest memory of doing anything art related was be drawing this super janky cat in a sketchbook while telling my mom how much I wanted to be an artist.

Formally educated. I attended a performing and fine arts high school where I study art: photography, drawing, etc. I then went on to the New England School of Art & Design to study Graphic Design

One of my coworkers close friends recommended CAA to me after she had seen one of my pieces at a work event.

Besides from the Cambridge local community, I’m also involved in the Merrimack Valley art community. Specially the town of Lawrence where I am originally from. Lawrence art community is very upcoming, featuring very talented Hispanic artists. As a Honduran American, it’s always been very important to me to give back to my community and represent where I came from.

Exhilaration, Acrylic and enamel on canvas

I mostly work in paint, though I do experiment with drawing mediums as well. Acrylic, oils, enamels, watercolors, whatever might make the mark and texture I am looking for.

Depending on the mood and tone set for the piece, the creating process can either start on a traditional easel or on the floor of my studio. The approach to the mark making comes in many ranges as well: using standard paint brushes, pouring paint while standing on a chair, throwing the paint with palette knifes, etc. Although chaotic in practice, I am often seeking to find the compositional balance between attentiveness and fortuitous.

Everyday experiences and emotions are often what I try to explore in my work. Since these can often be difficult to express in a typical fashion, my work is my way of conveying these instances without words. There are a variety of ways in which we engage with our complex experiences. The visual abstraction of these experiences is what I convey through the colors, strokes, compositions, and so on.

It would be cliche to say I would love to see my work in the ICA one day. As cool as that would be, I think more of an actual goal for myself would be to keep exploring and finding new ways to create. I find so much value in being able to create work that reflects who I am and what I love and to be able to keep challenging myself in that pursuit is what I really strive for.

The MFA has always been my first love so I would have to say there by default. However, any museum or gallery specifying in contemporary style art grabs my attention easily.

I’m currently working on building up a section of my living room wall with just local artists.
