Q&A
What are your earliest memories of being artistic? When I completed my Masters in Biotechnology in 2004, I realized that I will be a scientist whole my life and I could never fulfill my dream as an artist. Since childhood I was making oil paintings, I could make portraits when I was only 12 when I was 14 years old I make one oil painting work (5 feet x 4.5 feet), which was completed in two months, that was a huge success. But as per our family tradition, I could pursue my carrier in science. Studying Art was not allowed in my family. After my first master’s, I realized somehow I am not enjoying my profession. Though choosing Art as a carrier in 2010 was against my dear ones.
When did art become a pursuit? In 2010
Are you self-taught or formally educated in visual art? I was a self-taught artist till 2017 but I was practicing art (professionally) since 2010 in India. Now I have MFA in 2D from MassArt.
How did you first become involved with CAA? Last year when I shifted to Cambridge, I was looking to connect with local art communities.
What role do you think the artist plays in society? I think every artist, painter, musician, singer is contributing many things to our society. I simply see their contribution as instructors, making a deep emotional impact; which is shaping our social consciousness, as thinkers, they are navigating us toward day-to-day life social issues which should be noticed and fixed; environmental issues, Social justice, etc. As an artist, I have an immense desire to work on the mental health issues of children.
.
What medium do you currently work in and how did you choose this medium? Currently, I am using bronze, 14k gold beads, copper, Iron, Sterling Silver, acrylic, wood, acrylic inks, etc. I choose my medium randomly, there is no specific way for choosing my medium. It is something I inspired with my current thoughts and subject.
What is your creative process? Where are you finding ideas for your art these days? The interaction of dots, lines, colors and patterns generate energy patterns, I seek to understand them with a metaphysical lens. I experience a sense of vibration across the multi-dimensional surface during this process. I am also interested in the physical properties of color; viscosity & velocity, which providse a tactile surface experience that opens many interpretations about neurological hidden messages. Using light and sound with artwork help to give these visual forms a supportive sensory stimulation.
How do you choose your subject matter? Is there a reoccurring theme that carries throughout your work? My artistic process begins with a desire to understand “Universal energy”: how each of our consciousnesses explores visual forms. Two primary forms inhabit my work: Dots and Lines, which together evoke everything in the universe. Dots are atoms, cells, and stars. Lines are the continuity of life with endless human elevated experiences. I believe, a Line is the extended form of a Dot, I try to observe this relationship in every dimension of our day-to-day life. All of my senses try to observe & identify those UNSEEN forms which is a completely non-verbal communication process across the surface.
In your opinion, what’s your best/favorite piece you’ve made? Every work is very unique is my favorite. For a mother, every child is loving and unique.
What is one of your artistic goals? My artworks are reaching the right audience with the right message…..I wish to keep continuing this goal.
What living artists are you inspired by? I am really very inspired by more old masters who are in their bodies now. But Yayoi Kusama, Richard Serra, James Turrell are a few names which I like to read more about their work.
Do you have any shows coming up? Two solo shows & few auctions.
