Where: The Charles River Speedway, 525 Western Avenue, Brighton MA
Thank you to all who supported the CAA’s temporary gallery + shop at the Charles River Speedway! Over the past 10.5 months, we’ve presented 7 exhibits; launched a SHOP and Print + Work on Paper program featuring works by local artists and makers; and hosted a selection of workshops and a weekly figure drawing session! Now, it is time to pass the space along to a new steward – and to explore new opportunities for artists in Cambridge!
About CAA at the Speedway: In the Fall of 2021, CAA launched a 4-month, experiment – a pop-up gallery space at the newly opened, historic, Charles River Speedway – that ultimately extended to 11 months of community building.
The Speedway is a beautiful historic site previously used as offices and stables and now renovated and repurposed to house mixed-use community based businesses. It’s located at the intersection of Western Avenue and Soldier’s Field Road – just across the river in Allston. It’s a 15 minute bus ride from Harvard Square, and less than 2 miles from our home on Lowell Street.
After touring The Charles River Speedway facility and many, many discussions, we entered into a four month “experiment”, renting space to be used as a retail gallery and program venue. The gallery provided our members with increased opportunities to show and sell work, and we will held workshops and classes there throughout our 77th season. This was an exciting opportunity for a greater public presence for both CAA and our members.
