About | Talking Points: Space for conversation and debate is presented in partnership with Cambridge College, taking inspiration from the theme for their 2022-2023 Academic Year: Common Ground.
Open-mindedness is a necessary precondition to finding common ground. When we examine our own biases and are willing to engage with diverse others and novel ideas, we can find common points of agreement and ways to be in relationship with one another. What does it look like to genuinely achieve common ground? How can we celebrate the ways that disparate people have located common ground, sharing their humanity with one another in a variety of ways that made the connection possible? Throughout the academic year 2022-2023, we will examine these questions and look at common ground beyond the theoretical, thinking about public and private spaces where we can find and grow our common ground.
In this call, we invite artists to consider the ways in which the visual medium can make space for open dialogue around pressing issues, whether local or global.
Talking Points is open to all current Cambridge Art Association (CAA) members – Artist, Associate Artist, Student, and Lifetime Members. This exhibit will be juried online.
Talking Points will be presented at Cambridge College’s Town Common Gallery, 500 Rutherford Avenue, Charlestown, MA. The entirety of the exhibit will be featured online for the duration of the exhibition timeline.
About | Caron Tabb
Caron Tabb was born in apartheid South Africa, raised on a farm in Israel from the age of eight and, has lived in the US for the last twenty years. After years working in the nonprofit world, Tabb turned her focus to art. These key biographical elements and her passion for social justice issues deeply impact her artistic practice. In addition to traditional painting and photography, Tabb incorporates many found objects and unconventional materials into her work. Her conceptual mixed-media and installation pieces address issues of social inequality, racial justice and feminism as seen through the lens of her deep Jewish identity. When Tabb questions her role as a Jewish, white woman, and a human being today, she knows that in part it is to raise the level of discourse, increase empathy and engage people in difficult conversations about a just and equal society. She feels a burning passion to use her privilege and address what it means to be an American in this day and age. Tabb’s art serves as her voice and vehicle for these conversations which she hopes to inspire in the viewer.
